Cluster Head – Plant Engineering & Design

A Ph D from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Dr Malur has more than 28 years of experience in Product and Plant Engineering. A firm believer in embracing change, his penchant for new technologies, intense process, and people management skills have helped Dr Malur excel in various roles.

Dr Rajashekhar Malur (Raj) is based in Bengaluru, India and is the Cluster Head for the Plant Engineering & Design Cluster comprising Power, Hydrocarbon & Chemicals and Mining and Metallurgy Businesses of Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE). In this role, he is responsible for sustainable growth and the P&L of the cluster.

Prior to this, as the Unit head of Power Business, Raj was responsible for the P&L and growth of the Power business unit, covering both Generation (Thermal, Nuclear, Hydro, Renewable) and Transmission & Distribution sectors. Raj is passionate about Energy Transition and led the business along those lines.

Earlier, Raj was the Chief Technology Officer, leading a team of senior Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across Business Units and Disciplines. The team was responsible for developing technology strategies and new service offerings aligned with the tech strategy. He worked closely with various business unit heads to ensure technology relevance.

Previously, Raj was the Global Delivery Head for the Energy Business from 2016 to 2018, Head of Thermal Power from 2013 to 2016, and Vertical Head of Overseas Projects for Power Business from 2008 to 2013.

Before joining TCE, Raj worked with GE John F Welch Technology Centre from 2000 to 2008 and held various roles such as Project Lead for CF34 Engines in Aviation; Leader for Reliability team in Energy; Engineering Manager for Thermal Systems and Power Plant Engineering; and is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt from GE. Previously, Raj was with Electrowatt Engineering Oman from 1998 to 2000, handling Gas-fired power plants in Oman and Qatar; and TCE from 1994 to 1998, where he worked on Tarapur Atomic Power Plant Unit 3&4.

Raj has in-depth knowledge of technology, innovations and technology trends. As a thought leader, he has spoken at various Indian and International forums and regularly interacts with the industry bodies shaping opinions. Raj is a member of the Governing Council of Consulting Engineers Association of India and is also on the Editorial Board of CEAI’s publication “Viewpoint”. He also serves as Advisor to universities on engineering education.
